Last fall was all about exploring very watery processes, starting with fluid acrylic paint on soaking wet paper. It felt like surfing with color. The plot thickened when I began responding with other layers and other mediums. The results of layering are always surprising and unpredictable.
This has given rise to many experiments that are scattered around the floor of the studio in a kind of happy chaos for me to respond to.

My first response has been to roll out large sections of raw linen, which react beautifully to these fluid beginnings and feel more appropriate to the scale.

I love this time of year in the studio, when it feels like anything is possible. There are many ideas stirring just under the surface, but I want them to come into form naturally.

Momentum will begin to build toward an exhibition later this spring, more on that later. For now, it feels like watching crocus bulbs starting to poke out of the dirt, with that familiar excitement of seeing them open.
If you are curious to see more of the process as it unfolds, or to view available small and larger works, the studio is open by appointment. Inquiries and availability can be directed to Kate at kate@lionandlamb.art.
