Mud

As the lake goes down further it exposes sand and mud. This dries in the sun and the whole place turns into an incredible canvas. You can see a record of all kinds of bird and animal movement across it. It's hard to walk around without wrecking something.

If someone knew how to read they would see stories all over the place.

Here's the effect of rocks on the drying/cracking process. This was in a creek drainage. I'm presuming that escaping gas bubbles made the little holes in this one.

As you walk around you find different soil types that crack differently or not at all. This area of mud bordered on a sandy patch.

I love this one! Like some kind of great calligraphy.
